The clematis is a flower that teaches resilience. It climbs, reaches, and adapts, finding its way toward the light with quiet determination. Every vine, every bloom, and every new season is a reminder that growth is not always easy—but it is always possible.

Part of my Refuse to Fade collection, this original painting celebrates perseverance, hope, and the beauty of becoming. Two vibrant blue clematis blossoms emerge from a rich black background, their brilliant petals illuminated with layers of cobalt, periwinkle, and soft violet. The winding vine and olive-green foliage create a sense of movement, symbolizing the unexpected paths that shape our lives and ultimately lead us forward.

Created with an acrylic underpainting and finished with layers of oil paint, each petal has been carefully developed to capture the delicate veining, luminous color, and flowing movement unique to the clematis. The contrast between the vivid blooms and the dark background allows the flowers to radiate with life, embodying the spirit of resilience that defines the Refuse to Fade collection.

For me, these paintings are about more than flowers. They are reflections on healing, growth, and the quiet courage to keep reaching for the light.
